Part One:The Good, The Bad and The Ugly
The good news
check out this 78.8 pounds on the scale. I guess all those 4 walks a day Mrs. S took me on for 12 weeks really paid off. I went from what Dr. Steve had written on my Sept 2015 check up chart good health but overweight at 85.9 to April 2016 excellent health 78.8. I even heard him say I was now in the average range.
I’ll bet Mrs. S wished those 4 walks did her that much good as all she seemed to be was tired .
Then Dr. Steve got down on the floor with me. He wanted to look me over real good.
Now for the bad news
He didn’t like the big bulge on my back leg. I wasn’t worried couldn’t see it, didn’t hurt and hasn’t slowed me down one bit.
So Dr. Steve did some tests and now the news got ugly.
He recommended that my benign tumor be removed. I really didn’t think Mr. C or Mrs. S would buy into especially when I heard how much this operation would cost. As a matter of fact they took it pretty well. I really didn’t understand any of it. I just wanted to get out of the room. I hated all the needle pricks.
So in a couple of weeks I go back to him. What I didn’t like hearing is they expect me to miss my breakfast just to have surgery. Doesn’t seem fair.
Part Two: Off leash (loving every minute of it)
Let the trading begin. Yesterday I carried this home and Mr. C certainly got bent out of shape. He ran into the house for a piece of turkey which was to my liking. I gave up the deer bone without a fight.
Today Mr. C and Mrs. S were taking way too long talking to our neighbor. I was bored. I wandered off and splashed though the swamp near their house. Then I could smell something in the garage and went to investigate. I found some meat grease in a can so I helped myself to a lick or two. I got my first swim of the season when Mr.C dragged me to the water. He said I needed a bath.
The sun finally came out today. I was able to spend the rest of the afternoon guarding the yard from the porch. Mr. C and Mrs. S are getting annoyed with me lately. They think I want to go in and out of the house all day long to check up on strange noise in the yard and out in the woods. If only they’d get me a doggie door.
Just when I was settling in they’ve switched locations again on me. I hope they stop moving me around soon. Since I’ve shed so much of my fur coat I am really cold. Can you guess where I am? Here’s a clue.
As you can see the ice is all gone and yesterday I saw something I remember called snow. Guess no boat rides for a while.
I am tired after barking for two days. Since I haven’t been around to guard and keep some order in the yard it’s overrun with deer, squirrels and chipmunks. I’ve been keeping Mr. C and Mrs. S busy letting me out as I need to make frequent yard checks. Today I treed several chipmunks and one squirrel. It was a stand-off and I didn’t catch a thing.
Our walk this afternoon got exciting with a new creature spotted on the road. We had just checked up on our neighbor Mike who was busy keeping a fire going. He is making maple syrup from 179 trees.
Mr. C was pretty happy to get a big jar of maple syrup
and Mrs. S is already thinking of food stuff to make with the syrup. But on our way back I saw this creature in the road. Mr. C then shouts at me to come quickly and grabbed my collar. I wasn’t sure what all the fuss was about. When I heard what this scary black thing was and what it can do chills went down my spine. Mrs. S had a hard time getting a quick picture as she was holding the jar of syrup while trying to keep the camera still.
We passed by this scary black, stinky thing that headed into the woods as we all moved quickly home.
We had walked many miles today checking things out and I was tired. I gobbled up my dinner quick and fell fast asleep.
I still dream about javelinas and snakes but now I have a new worry called skunks.
I thought the day would never come when I’d hear “Bella, its time to leave”. When I saw how packed the van was I now understood why Mr. C seemed so crabby. But my biggest worry was where I was going to ride.
I was relieved they did save me the whole back seat.
I didn’t spend all my time napping on the very long ride. I found it necessary to keep checking on Mr. C and Mrs. S’s driving. I wanted to make sure they stayed on course and did not take any side trips back.
I did learn to pee on command so I’d get a treat as we found out rest stops seemed to be far and few along our route.
The second night we stopped at a hotel I had been to when we started the trip. I had hoped for the same room number 113. I even stopped to check but found out room number 121 had this on the door waiting for us.
I tried my best being good riding in the van for three very longgggg days but after a while even looking out the window got boring and I wasn’t really tired to nap much. By the time we got close to home it was getting a little dark but Mr. C had a really good surprise for me. Instead of going home first we stopped at my favorite dog park. I didn’t care there weren’t any dogs to play with I could finally run free.
Happiness is being home, rolling in the grass and
taking a nap in my favorite bed.
